Work Ethic
What kind of person do I want to be after I graduate and start my career? How do I want other people to view me? What kind of worker do I want to be? These are all questions that popped in my head as I was reading from several different articles/books this past week. I want to be someone who can be relied on in and outside of work. I want to be someone who can be trusted. Someone with integrity; If I say that I'm going to do something, then I'm going to do it.
Someone in my own life that I have always looked up to for their work ethic and integrity was my Dad. He would get up at the crack of dawn every single day. If he every slept in, it was because he didn't feel well, and even then, he would still get up eventually and do his work. I remember always being amazed by that because if I ever felt even a little ill, I would stay home from school because I couldn't imagine spending the whole day at school feeling that way. My dad always has gone above and beyond what was asked of him. For example, we lived on a private road and whenever a bad snowstorm would come through, the snowplows wouldn't clear our roads. My Dad would get up in the morning, while it was still dark, and plow the roads with his tractor. He didn't just plow our own driveway. he would plow everyone's driveway and every road that led out to the main road. Nobody asked him to do this. He just did it because my Dad is an amazing person and hard worker. These examples of my Dad were not necessarily things that he did at work. They were done in his private time. Yet he still did them and didn't get paid to do them. That's the kind of person I want to be. Someone who goes above and beyond. Does the right thing. Brings more good into the world. I'm grateful everyday to my Dad and the examples he gave me in the type of person that I wanted to be.
