Enjoying the journey

This last week, of all the reading material and videos that I watched this past week, I think what I found most interesting (and really took to heart) was Guy Kawasaki's video.   We need to have passion with whatever it is that we decide to do. If we have true passion in our business, we will more likely make an impact on the world. Sometimes, I feel so small in this big world, that I sometimes wonder if what I do is noticed or even really matters. I shouldn't think like that, and it doesn't happen often but occasionally those thoughts creep in. Maybe that's why I liked Guy’s video so much because I think it kind of reinforced that I CAN make a difference in my business, especially when coupled with passion.        Another point he made in his video was that when he was in college, he was constantly seeing other people at certain stages of life and couldn't wait to get to that point. When he eventually did get to that stage, he looked back ...

Self Mastery

What does it mean to have self mastery? Is it important? Do I need it? As I read the study material this week in my class,  these were all questions that popped into my head. Self mastery is kind of a fascinating topic to me because it requires one to monitor their thoughts and behavior and then change it accordingly to eliminate the unwanted and undesirable behaviors.  I think some people are perfectly happy with who they are; the good, the bad and the ugly but it’s so important for all people to take a hard look in the mirror to see where they can improve on themselves.     If we set ourselves goals, whether personal or professional, they will require a change in behavior...that's why they're goals! We are making a target to get to something we have yet to attain and in order to attain it, we have to make a change of some sort. Whether we are able to make that change is where self mastery comes in. If we desire a goal enough, I would hope most of us would hav...

A Hero's Journey

In a “A Hero’s Journey” I learned many things about how to have faith and courage on my entrepreneurial journey. We go through a journey as entrepreneurs but after watching and listening to the devotional, I think that entrepreneurs experience a personal and emotional journey as well.               One of the most impactful things I listened to, was the things you acquire as part of the Hero’s journey. Those on a Hero’s journey will learn to learn, learn to make money and learn to live a life of meaning. I really loved this concept because I think they can all work together to bring you success but also become a better person by thinking of other people.               Learning to learn is a concept that I need to incorporate more of in my life. I always want to be in a state of learning but one thing I struggle with is to keep asking q...

Fears

I did an exercise this week to think of my worst fears in regard to entrepreneurship. I liked this activity since I had never considered what my worst fears were. We are so focused on how to prepare for our future (of course, a good thing) that we don’t really consider how to prepare for our worst fears along the way.               Mentors and supportive business associates can really go a long way in helping entrepreneurs in their ventures. I think if I faithfully do my part, in addition to the aid mentors would lend, it would be harder to fail. I think my biggest problem would be asking for the help and putting myself out there. I know from the past that I struggle with asking for help but am working on getting better and this is an area where it’s needed!               When I looked ove...

Work Ethic

What kind of person do I want to be after I graduate and start my career? How do I want other people to view me? What kind of worker do I want to be? These are all questions that popped in my head as I was reading from several different articles/books this past week. I want to be someone who can be relied on in and outside of work. I want to be someone who can be trusted. Someone with integrity; If I say that I'm going to do something, then I'm going to do it.     Someone in my own life that I have always looked up to for their work ethic and integrity was my Dad. He would get up at the crack of dawn every single day. If he every slept in, it was because he didn't feel well, and even then, he would still get up eventually and do his work. I remember always being amazed by that because if I ever felt even a little ill, I would stay home from school because I couldn't imagine spending the whole day at school feeling that way. My dad always has gone above and beyond what ...
